Quest Saxophone Quintet
Quest Saxophone Quintet nasceu do encontro de cinco saxofonistas portugueses com uma vontade comum: explorar o saxofone para além dos contextos em que habitualmente o escutamos.
Através de uma formação pouco convencional, o grupo procura tirar partido da diversidade tímbrica da família dos saxofones, criando uma sonoridade ampla, flexível e cheia de contrastes. O seu repertório atravessa diferentes épocas e linguagens, da música erudita e sacra às bandas sonoras e a outras obras que encontram no quinteto uma nova forma de expressão.
Grande parte desse percurso passa também pela adaptação e criação de arranjos próprios, pensados para valorizar as características singulares da formação.
Em palco, o Quest procura acima de tudo contar histórias através do som, explorando a proximidade, a força e a riqueza expressiva de cinco saxofones que, juntos, assumem por vezes a dimensão de um pequeno ensemble orquestral.
Quest Saxophone Quintet grew out of the meeting of five Portuguese saxophonists with a shared desire to explore the saxophone beyond the settings in which it is most commonly heard.
Through an unconventional instrumentation, the ensemble draws on the remarkable variety of colors within the saxophone family, creating a sound that is broad, flexible, and full of contrast. Its repertoire moves freely across different periods and musical languages, from classical and sacred music to soundtracks and works that find a new voice through the quintet.
Much of this musical journey also involves creating and adapting arrangements specifically for the ensemble, shaped around the particular character of its instrumentation.
On stage, Quest seeks above all to tell stories through sound, exploring the intimacy, energy, and expressive range of five saxophones which, together, can at times take on the depth and scale of a small orchestral ensemble.
